TAFFIC is a fixed dose combination (FDC) product (3-drug) containing 50 mg of bictegravir (BIC), 200 mg of emtricitabine (FTC), and 25 mg of tenofovir alafenamide (TAF). This anti-retroviral medication is indicated for the treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection.

  • Immune reconstitution syndrome may occur in patients treated with combination antiretroviral therapy. During the initial phase of therapy, patients whose immune system responds may develop an inflammatory response to indolent or residual opportunistic infections, which may necessitate further assessment and treatment.
  • Before or when initiating tab taffic, and during treatment, assess serum creatinine, estimated creatinine clearance, urine glucose and urine protein. In those with chronic kidney disease, also assess serum phosphorus. Discontinue therapy in case of significant reduction in renal function or evidence of Fanconi syndrome.
  • Severe hepatomegaly with steatosis and lactic acidosis, including fatal cases, may occur with the administration of nucleoside analogs, including emtricitabine, a component of taffic tablet, and tenofovir, another prodrug of tenofovir, alone or along with other antiretrovirals.
  • Pregnancy needs to be avoided. It is not known if TAFFIC can harm your fetus. Let your health specialist know if you become pregnant during treatment. Women who are HIV-1 positive should avoid breastfeed their child because HIV-1 can be passed to the child in breast milk.
