Description
Eplerenone tablet is an antagonist of aldosterone that is used in:Â
- Enhancing the prognosis of stable individuals suffering from an acute myocardial infarction who have congestive heart failure (CHF) and LV systolic dysfunction (LVEF ≤40%).Â
- Hypertension, either on its own or in conjunction with other substances.
Dosage and Side Effects
CHF Post-MI: As soon as the patient is able to tolerate it, start the medication at a dose of 25 mg once a day and work your way up to the recommended 50 mg once daily, ideally within 4 weeks. You can take the eplerenone pills with or without food.
Hypertension: Eplerenone should be started at a starting dose of 50 mg once daily. It takes four weeks for eplerenone to fully take action as a medication. Eplerenone dosages should be increased to 50 mg twice daily for those whose blood pressure does not respond well to 50 mg once daily. Since higher doses of eplerenone come with a higher risk of hyperkalemia and don’t affect blood pressure any more than 100 mg, they are not advised.
