Dosage and Side Effects

The recommended dose of Gefitinib is 250 mg orally once daily with or without food until there is evidence of disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. Do not take any missed dose within 12 hours of the next dose.

Warning and Precautions

  • ILD or ILD-like adverse drug reactions (e.g., pneumonitis, lung infiltration, acute respiratory distress syndrome, or pulmonary fibrosis) may occur. Withhold treatment and promptly evaluate for ILD in any patient who presents with worsening respiratory symptoms such as dyspnea, cough, and fever. Permanently stop treatment if ILD is confirmed.
  • Increased alanine aminotransferase (ALT), increased aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and increased bilirubin may be reported. Obtain periodic liver function testing. Withhold treatment in those with worsening liver function and stop treatment in those with severe hepatic impairment.
  • Gastrointestinal perforation may occur in patients treated with Geftinat 250 mg tablets. Permanently stop treatment in those who develop gastrointestinal perforation.
  • Bullous conditions including toxic epidermal necrolysis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and erythema multiforme may emerge from treatment with Gefitinib. This treatment should be interrupted or stopped if the patient develops severe bullous, blistering, or exfoliating conditions. 
  • Gefitinib can be responsible for causing fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman. Women capable of becoming pregnant should utilize reliable contraception throughout treatment and for a minimum of two weeks following the conclusion of therapy.
