Description

Atracurium Besylate is used, as an adjunct to general anaesthesia, to facilitate endotracheal intubation and to offer skeletal muscle relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventilation. The drug atracurium besylate can be used most advantageously if muscle twitch response to peripheral nerve stimulation is monitored.

Dosage and Side Effects

The standard dose of atracurium besylate injection should be administered intravenously. The atracurium besilate should not be given intramuscularly. Intramuscular administration may be responsible for tissue irritation.

The most commonly reported side effects of atracurium include flushing of the skin and low blood pressure.

Warning and Precautions

  • Should avoid the use of atracurium in patients with known hypersensitivity to it.
  • The atracurium besilate injection should not be used before unconsciousness has been induced.
  • Atracurium injection must not be mixed in the same syringe, or administered simultaneously through the same needle, with alkaline solutions (e.g., barbiturate solutions).
  • Should not use atracurium ampoule during pregnancy.
    Appropriate caution should be imposed when atracurium injection is administered to nursing women.
