Nintedanib is a small molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor that binds to a family of growth factor receptors and helps prevent the proliferation of fibroblasts. Dosage and Side Effects

The typical recommended dosage is 150 mg twice daily administered with food and fluids. Capsules can be swallowed whole. Crushing, chewing, or splitting the capsules may cause a bitter taste. In cases of mild hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh class A), low body mass index (BMI), or persistent gastrointestinal side effects, a dose reduction to 100 mg twice daily is recommended.

If a dose is missed or skipped, the advice is to continue the routine schedule. It is not advisable to take additional capsules to catch/make up for the missed dose.

The most common side effects of Nintedanib are decreased appetite, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, weight decrease, vomiting, liver enzyme elevation, headache, and hypertension.

  • Measure liver tests promptly in individuals who report symptoms that may indicate liver injury, including anorexia, fatigue, right upper abdominal discomfort, dark urine, or jaundice. Dosage can be modified or interrupted for liver enzyme elevations.

  • Cyendiv may elevate the risk of bleeding. Non-serious and serious bleeding events, some fatal, may occur. Use this medication in patients with a previous risk of bleeding only if the anticipated benefit outweighs the potential risk.

  • Nintedanib may boost the probability of gastrointestinal perforation. Use caution when treating individuals who have had recent abdominal surgery, known history of diverticular disease, or taking concomitant corticosteroids or NSAIDs. Discontinue this treatment in those who develop gastrointestinal perforation. Only use it in those with a known risk of gastrointestinal perforation if the anticipated benefit outweighs the potential risk.
