Description

Carmustine is an alkylating agent, indicated for the treatment of:

  1. Glioblastoma
  2. Brainstem Glioma
  3. Medulloblastoma
  4. Astrocytoma
  5. Metastatic Brain Tumors
  6. Multiple Myeloma: In combination with prednisone.
  7. Hodgkin’s Disease: as a secondary therapy in combination with other approved medicines in those patients who relapse during the treatment with primary therapy, or who fail to respond to primary therapy.
  8. Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphomas: as a secondary therapy in combination with other approved medicines in those patients who relapse during the treatment with primary therapy, or who fail to respond to primary therapy.

Dosage and Side Effects

Carmustine 100 mg should be given intravenously after food under the supervision of an experienced healthcare provider.

The most common side effects of Carmustine include nausea, vomiting, low blood count, facial flushing pain, and burning at the site of the injection.

Warning and Precautions

  • Blood count should be monitored weekly for at least 6 weeks after a dose Carmustine 100 mg injection.
  • Liver and Renal function tests should be monitored periodically.
  • Carmustine may cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman. Women of childbearing potential should be advised to avoid the intention of becoming pregnant.
