The most common side effects of Baricitinib are upper respiratory tract infections, nausea, herpes zoster, herpes simplex, thrombocytosis, increases of liver enzymes, creatine phosphokinase increases, deep vein thrombosis, neutropenia, pulmonary embolism, and urinary tract infection.
Serious and occasionally fatal infections because of invasive fungal, bacterial, mycobacterial, viral, or other opportunistic pathogens may occur in patients with rheumatoid arthritis receiving Baricitinib 1mg/2mg/4mg tablets. Closely monitor patients for the development of signs and symptoms of infection throughout and after treatment.
Evaluate patients for active infection before administration of Baricitinib. This medicine should not be given to those with active TB. Test patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) for latent TB. Patients with RA and latent TB should be treated with standard antimycobacterial therapy prior to initiating treatment.
Thrombosis, including pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep venous thrombosis (DVT), may occur at an increased incidence in those treated with Baricitinib. In case clinical features of DVT/PE or arterial thrombosis occur, patients should discontinue treatment and be evaluated promptly and treated appropriately. Avoid this medicine in patients who may be at higher risk of thrombosis.
Gastrointestinal perforations may occur in patients treated with Baricitinib 4mg/2mg/1mg pills. Monitor Baricitinib-treated patients who may be at higher risk for gastrointestinal perforation (e.g., patients with a known history of diverticulitis). Assess promptly patients presenting with new onset abdominal signs and symptoms for early identification of gastrointestinal perforation.
