Description

Erlotinib (Erlonat Tablet)  is an oral, once-daily, reversible inhibitor of the EGFR signalling pathway. This kinase inhibitor is used as monotherapy for the treatment of patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) whose tumors are driven by common EGFR gene-activating mutations. It is also used for the treatment of patients with locally advanced, unresectable, or metastatic pancreatic cancer, along with gemcitabine.

Dosage and Side Effects of Erlotinib Tablets

The recommended daily dose of Erlotinib tablet for NSCLC is 150 mg taken on an empty stomach, i.e., at least one hour prior to or two hours after the ingestion of food. Treatment with Erlonat should continue until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity occurs.  

The recommended daily dose for pancreatic cancer is 100 mg taken once daily in combination with drug the gemcitabine. Warning and Precautions

  • Cases of critical ILD, including fatal cases, can occur with Erlotinib treatment. Withhold therapy for acute onset of new or progressive pulmonary signs and symptoms such as cough, dyspnea, and fever pending diagnostic evaluation. In case of confirmed ILD, permanently stop treatment.
  • Hepatorenal syndrome, critical acute renal failure including fatal cases, and renal insufficiency can develop with this treatment. Perform periodic monitoring of serum electrolytes and renal function during treatment.
  • Gastrointestinal perforation, including fatal cases, can develop with Erlotinib 150 mg/100 mg/25 mg treatment. Permanently discontinue the use of this medicinal product in those who develop gastrointestinal perforation.
  • Hepatorenal syndrome and hepatic failure, including fatal cases, can occur with Erlonat therapy in those with normal hepatic function. Perform periodic liver testing throughout treatment with this medicine. Elevated frequency of monitoring of liver function is recommended for patients with pre-existing hepatic impairment or biliary obstruction.
  • Reduced tear production, abnormal eyelash growth, keratoconjunctivitis sicca, or keratitis can occur with Erlonat treatment and can cause corneal perforation or ulceration. Interrupt or stop therapy in case patients present with acute or worsening ocular complications such as eye pain.
